Whitehaven is committed to the sustainable development of its coal reserves.

It is the company’s philosophy to keep its rehabilitation programs as up-to-date as possible, restoring land to healthy habitat for native flora and fauna.

All mining operations are very closely regulated and monitored by Government agencies. A major Environmental Assessment is required prior to approval with each site managed in accordance with its range of environmental management and monitoring plans.

We work closely with the local Aboriginal groups in the management and protection of culturally significant artefacts and sites. We also work in conjunction with the Red Chief Local Aboriginal Land Council who manage a tree propogation unit at the Whitehaven CHPP for the supply of tubestock to Whitehaven projects for use in rehabilitation activities.
