Mining Operations

In the financial year ended June 2011, the Narrabri underground mine delivered its first full year of development production. The mine now has four continuous miners operating underground. Whitehaven expects longwall mining at Narrabri to produce at an annualised rate of approximately 6.0Mtpa of ROM coal. An additional 0.5Mtpa of ROM coal will be available until 2025 from mains and gates development.

The $300 million Stage Two development is essentially complete.

Development of the first longwall panel is complete and SBD-Delta, a mining contractor, is currently installing the longwall and providing underground development support. The AFC is installed and shields are currently being installed. As reported previously, commissioning of the longwall is due in May.
