Tarrawonga Mine is located 16km east of Boggabri. It commenced open cut mining in 2006, and has a mine life of approximately 18 years.
The coal produced at Tarrawonga has a mix of low ash, low sulphur, low phosphorous and medium to high volatility. Approvals enable a ROM production rate of up to 3Mtpa. Currently coal is washed at Gunnedah, although longer term plans are to have Tarrawonga coal washed at Vickery’s plant once constructed.
